We also measure the operator arm length and the gate weight - a Pro Access LA-700 arm will not physically mount to a bracket drilled for an HSLG-II, even though both are Linear swing operators. A Linear operator that once opened a 600-pound gate in 12 seconds now takes 20 seconds and labors on the uphill swing. The motor is not dead yet, but the internal resistance is climbing and thermal shutdown is next.
• Burning smell or visible scorching at the motor housing. This is end-stage failure. The insulation on the motor windings has degraded, usually from heat cycling and moisture. We disconnect power immediately and replace the motor - continuing to run it risks fire or damage to the control board, which costs more than the motor itself.

The limit switches must be set with the gate in specific positions - set them wrong and the gate will over-travel into the stop post or vehicle.
