Elite Access Control Installation: The Johns Creek Owner’s Guide

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite built its name on the CSW200 and Miracle-One swing-gate operators, and those two series use distinct access-control footprints. The CSW200 (residential and light commercial, 1/2 to 1 HP) typically pairs with Elite’s own Sentry or Apollo-compatible keypads, or with third-party readers like the HID ProxPoint or Kantech ioProx. The Miracle-One (commercial-duty, up to 2 HP) uses a heavier-gauge 18-gauge low-voltage bus and often runs multi-reader setups with loop detectors. To identify what you have, check the silver spec label on the operator housing: CSW units show a four-digit date code and “CSW200” followed by the horsepower rating; Miracle-One units are stamped “M1” or “Miracle-One” near the power input lugs.

We carry both OEM Elite keypads and quality aftermarket equivalents from Linear and DoorKing that communicate cleanly with Elite boards. The aftermarket readers often save $60-$90 on parts, but we flag one compatibility gotcha: Elite’s older Sentry 300 keypad used a proprietary 4-wire communication protocol that some aftermarket units struggle with. Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing

• Keypad accepts codes but gate does not trigger. Usually the control board’s relay is closing but the loop detector or loop amplifier has failed. We see this on Johns Creek properties near the Chattahoochee where ground moisture corrodes the loop wire splices underground.
• Intermittent response, worse after rain. Water intrusion in the keypad housing or a compromised conduit seal. Elite’s Sentry housings are rated for outdoor use, but the gasket hardens after about six Georgia summers and loses its seal.
• Free-exit loop works, entry side does not. The exit loop is a separate circuit; if it functions while the entry reader fails, the problem is almost certainly the reader, its power supply, or the communication run to the board. We test voltage at the reader first.
• Gate opens on its own at odd hours. A stuck relay on the access control board, or phantom voltage from a failing transformer. This is the symptom that makes homeowners nervous, and it should: an open gate at 2 a.m. is not a setting issue.
• Keypad display dim or flickering. Low voltage at the reader, often from undersized wire (we find 22-gauge bell wire on long runs) or a power supply dropping under load. Elite spec calls for 18-gauge minimum on runs over 100 feet.

What drives the spread: whether the existing conduit is reusable, how far the reader sits from the operator, and whether we need to reprogram multiple remotes or codes after the swap. DIY or Call Us?

There is one thing an owner can safely check: verify the keypad has 12-24 VAC at the terminal block behind the housing. If voltage is present and the keypad still does not respond, the failure is internal. Everything past that point involves live low-voltage wiring, relay logic, and board-level programming that can lock out all access if configured incorrectly. We do not recommend DIY replacement for access control: a miswired loop detector can backfeed voltage into the Elite board and fry a $400 control module.
